Hi: I'm having yet another issue with my web host (I think). But my knowledge in this doesn't really go very deep and before assigning blame I wanted to run my problem by this forum to see if the problem could be originating from somewhere other than my hosting company. I am not receiving email that is sent to my place email account. I am receiving email to my yahoo email account as well as the one to my isp be. My web host company is in the process of upgrading servers so maybe that is the problem? I contacted their tech support earlier today and haven't heard approve from them yet. Before I call and blast them I wanted to see if the problem could have another source? Thanks in go for any thoughts on this. JonP. S. I tried sending a test email and it never arrived even though I didn't get a "Failure to deliver" notice after sending the email. Need more info for any real answerDid it ever work? Do you get bounce messages? can you displace mail? what happens if you telnet send domain com 25 ? I think it will be difficult to say something with out more details. Only your host has find to the logs and they will be able to say more regarding this. But you said they are not responding to you. They didn't even tell that the problem is not with their end. Personally. I won't be happy if my host is not responding to my tickets or emails. How long it has been since you contacted them? Need more info for any real answerDid it ever work? Do you get bound messages? can you send mail? what happens if you telnet mail domain com 25 ? Thanks. I ran the test. It showed 2 failures in the email portion and a couple of warnings. Wish I could bequeath the specific details but it wasn't familiar jargon. I tried going approve to it and a visitor gets only one dns test. Personally. I won't be happy if my host is not responding to my tickets or emails. How long it has been since you contacted them? Yesterday at 4:30 p m. I'm not happy. I realize that it was about the end of business day (maybe after hours depending on where they're located) but a web host company ought to undergo tech 24 hours - which they claim to have. My host is StartLogic. Looks like I'll be looking for a new host. Thats really a huge time in this industry. Are you sure that the ticket is properly lodged? or did you get an auto response or something like that?If support is going like that may be it is measure to start looking for a new host. Thats really a huge time in this industry. Are you sure that the book is properly lodged? or did you get an auto response or something desire that?If support is going like that may be it is time to start looking for a new host. I've open that to be typical with StartLogic. It often takes about 24 hours to get a response. Yes today I'll sight a new entertain. Problem is like many. I don't undergo indepth knowledge of what to look for in a host. I just want a reliable server with honest support at a reasonable price. Looks like I'll be spending a good part of today looking for tips through this forum. Here's another Q I have: A couple of months ago I got spam from MYSELF (which of course I didn't send). I contacted support about it and they said not to worry about it. that it was not uncommon for spammers to use someone else's email and it wouldn't hurt me. When I tested my site's dns this morning one of the email problems it listed was that it would be easy for someone to use my email to e-mail. How common is it that a web host's customers would be open prey for spammers? Also could that effect my google rankings? I've noticed that I've dropped off explore searches and have been trying to figure out why. I think the best place to start with is the offer section. How much plough lay and bandwidth are you looking for?Check the offer section and alter a list of hosts that you think will fir for you. You can consider the factors like uptime statistics response times level of customer support etc which will help you to change drink the list. Also examine them in the forum and you will be able to see reviews about them. Keep in mind that you ordain get for what you pay. So alter sure the host you look has a decent pay structure. I got a response from customer non-support after 56 hours. Here is what they said: Hello Jon. Thank you for contacting Support. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Once the issue is resolved you ordain be able to send and receive the e-mails. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact us. We are available 24x7. Sincerely. ***********Customer Support I wouldn't give them "two thumbs up" on support. It was a solid week before I realized I wasn't receiving email (business had been slow). By the time I figured it out I had several orders. 3 of which I had to send Priority Mail due to the delay in discovering them. It's funny though. I looked at one site that rated hosts and the Startlogic reviews raved about them - including their customer support. I understand that any host can run into problems. I also know that some problems can act time to fix. But what I find inexcusable is the time it took for them to get back to me. Have you tried running a trace route to your mail provider to determine any points of failure. You could try accessing your email from another location (perhaps via webmail offsite from your current location). Sorry to comprehend about your troubles. Keep us posted. That's right. I agree. 56 hours for a response is too much. Personally. I won't be happy with a entertain providing such a support. I anticipate you have to start looking for a new one. It's funny though. "Top Reasons to not use Yahoo! Hosting" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:09:34

A client recently used the one click install feature to add WP to her site within days it was hacked and she lost everything she had moved from another CMS (luckily she had backups). The problem was the defunct version of WP that Yahoo! installs. WP version 2.0.2 which beats. Yahoo! claim to be partners with WordPress org and provide search capabilities for that site yet the version they install on hundreds of user sites is full of holes and prone to malicious hijacks. This is a very funny yet restrictive setup that Yahoo! Hosting has in place to screw users form using phpMail functions. For example the standard flair for any new WP site is a contact form. Yahoo! wont allow you to use one. The only situation it would work is if the from email ID entered in the Contact Form is from the. For example if you are setting up example com the only people who can use the contact form are those with a someone@example com email ID. Does that even make sense? Their reason is if you had access to send emails to and from your site you might use the privilege to spam everyone. Privilege to Spam? Yahoo! assume that its subscribers are spammers and treat them like one irrespective of if you really are one or not. While there are ways around this issue but it is not worth the time and effort. Although this feature is for advanced users they don’t let users have access to it. This means you are not allowed to set up redirects and it you do manage to or set one up within the WP install, Yahoo! will delete the file and if you are the ‘unlucky types’ it might even kick you out of the system completely without the opportunity to restore/reverse to that portion of the site period. I recently called Yahoo! on behalf of a client and was on hold a good 50+ minutes just to hear the guy on the other end tell me he will “get the engineers to look at the issue the next morning” and that “the issue will be resolved in 3 to 5 days”. I replied (in astonishment) “3 to 5 days?” and he replied very calmly. “that’s less than a week” (almost confirming that he actually knows something). Obviously Yahoo! Hosting thinks your site is not important and can wait a 5-day downtime. After all why bother rushing their engineer to look into petty matters when they could be spending it on keeping the. “the issue will be resolved in 3 to 5 days” - now this is ridiculous. You know it’s funny how all the big names offer hosting services that are simply not that good. I wander what would be if at least one of them was offering a rock solid hosting. Probably they would kill all the competition. However something else applies. I guess. When you are such a big name it’s so easy to grow too fast. This means that you have to rapidly hire personnel that is not prepared well to handle such a load. It’s far better to use a smaller company which has web hosting as their primary business and get response to all your tickets in 10-15 minutes not days. Yahoo! also doesn’t allow access to the web server error logs which is a nuisance but not fatal. Indeed they treat clients as idiots. But their uptime is near perfection and their ability to catch email spammers is very strong. Our application runs well at Yahoo!(plugandplaywebmaster com) which makes website management and maintenace a breeze so one doesn’t have to use the Yahoo! tools. I am impressed with HostGator’s environment and their serious support team and would recommend HostGator for webhosting. There is no one method to do it essentially you need to back your database your theme/template the plugins list then switch the DNS address with your current host to point to your new host. On your new host install WordPress and add your theme and plugins create a new database and populate with the downloaded copy from your old site wait for the DNS to switch. Yahoo’s webhosting is a complete nightmare. Paricularly if you have a store on their webhosting platform. They cram ~1000 sites on each server assign 4 or more IP addresses to your site that change frequently (dynamic IP addresses)and won’t allow you to set up real 301s while they generate multiple urs for your site. The result is that only your homepage will be ranked for just a few unimportant keywords. If you want our business to die a slow & painful death then go with Yahoo merchant solutions / web hosting.

"Top Reasons to not use Yahoo! Hosting" posted by ~Ray

"Vizaweb Frustration!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-07-10 08:06:48

Hello everyone,Vizaweb has infuriated me for the measure measure - my site is always down and now my email is not working! Anyhow. I just signed up with another hosting company and I am desperately trying to switch my domain (that I registered with Vizaweb when I joined them) over to the new affiliate but no matter how hard I try. I just can't get the authorization code (epp code) from Vizaweb for the domain. They are very hard to get a hold of and when they do email me they furnish me a big runaround telling me to login to my be so I can get the info there but it is not there! There is absolutely no way to get this info on your own through the vizaweb site or through my cPanel. Also they set the whois info to 'Private' and apparently I be to undergo that switched to 'non-private'. And no be how much I email them they never give me a straight say or do anything to help me! Does anyone out there experience how I can get this information since it looks desire Vizaweb will not tell me I undergo been fighting this for days my have a huge headache and I have never felt so frustrated in all my life - my domain is very important to me and if I can't get it switched over I don't know what I ordain do. convey you Vizaweb for making my life a living hell - it is very much appreciated. Thanks for reply dvduval - yes. I think I can do a redirect - but my only concern is getting hold back of my domain. There must be something I can do to get the auth code and change the whois private setting to non-private - any ideas anyone? I am not sure if you can do this or not but. Vizaweb would not be the ICANN register. Look at the whois for your domain and contact the ICANN Domain enter about your problem. They should be able to help. I evaluate that you first of all have to change nameservers and get some uptime with your new provider and then start solving domain label transfer issues. __________________ - a adjust hosting affiliate offering online presence solutions since 1998.>>Web Hosting colocation dedicated servers and. >>>>Wholly owned multi homed communicate servers and facilities. I think that you first of all have to change nameservers and get some uptime with your new provider and then start solving domain name assign issues. Do you have access to change the nameservers? Keep mailing them again and again until you get it resolved. You can also trying calling them if they have any telecommunicate number in their website. Thanks guys - I have tried all your suggestions but comfort no success. And now Vizaweb has blocked me from emailing them. It is very obvious to me now that they have no intention of giving me hold back over my own domain which I own - almost like they are doing it just for spite (they must get pleasure out of seeing people frustrated and upset). The only way I ordain ever get my domain back now is if a third party steps in to back up - Please does anyone experience who I can communicate to help me? I tried ICANN but got nowhere. I just can't believe that all this insanity is possible - there must be some way to get back my domain which is rightfully exploit. Please help - thanks
