"FREUD AND WITTGENSTEIN: LANGUAGE AND HUMAN NATURE" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-27 15:16:37

The paper links Freud’s early work in the ‘Project for a scientific psychology’ with the psychoanalytic psychology of Kleinian object relations theory now current. Freud is often accused of introducing mechanism into his psychology and installing at its core an irreconcilable dichotomy of two disparate ways of explaining human behaviour. I suggest that Freud’s early mechanistic thinking is an attempt at what he only partly achieves a functional be of the ‘mental apparatus’. I consider whether this way of conceptualising the mind in functional terms is methodologically relevant to psychoanalytic investigation or whether it is at beat heuristically useful. From a brief consideration of Kleinian object relations theory illustrated by case material. I cerebrate that there are grounds for accepting the first of these alternatives. One of the dramatic consequences of Sigmund Freud's work is its seminal role in the examine for valid answers about the nature of the human mind and individual personality. His search for a scientific basis for understanding undercut nineteenth-century traditions that placed emphasis on primitive conceptions of race. Central to Freud's work is the theory of language and its function in the mind of the individual and in society. Using the historical contexts surrounding the evolution of Freud's theories from The Interpretation of Dreams to Civilization and Its Discontents his self-conception as a Jew and the dynamics of Viennese society and politics this essay explores the conflicts and correspondences between Freud's theories and the work of Ludwig Wittgenstein his near-contemporary and fellow Viennese on questions of mind language and identity. Freud's legacy will be assessed not in the fields of psychology neuroscience or hermeneutics but explored instead in terms of its importance in politics and ethical and social theory.

"Of Freud and Heart of Darkness" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:57:56

Die Großzügigkeit der Liebe. Die Schönheit der Chance. Die Wärme des Kameradschaftsgeistes. I was reading through some Heart of Darkness notes on psychoanalysis I got off LKC today and I guess literature does make sense after all. Especially the Freudian concept where what you try to suppress in your conscious state will come to haunt you in your subconscious slumber and eventually overwhelm you from within. And so have many great men and women fallen. On a side note despite its puny size. I'm pretty happy with the Andy Warhol exhibition (I researched on him for KI Aesthetics module last year!) and I managed to scot off with some pretty nice booty to frame up as well. I love the Mao installation (I'm sure Wangmo would've fawned over it) and I got a pretty nice Andy poster yay! And the hour long run till 23:30 tonight was pretty refreshing albeit reminding me that my fitness is like shit because I almost threw up when going downhill after running non-stop for 50 minutes. My stamina is gone and I'm lacking blood again 'cause my head feels like Antartica right now. I have to exercise more after I'm done with the A-levels and work on putting on more weight at the right places or die in NS. Hah. At least Punggol's peaceful and clean enough for me to exercise although I always had to be on the lookout for shady characters or weird animals springing from the bushes like !Kung bushmen of Africa. And there it goes. All gone like the cold winds and watery puddles of the night. 12 0ctober 1989SingaporeanWhere I'm At:Currently: National Junior College96-01: Loyang Primary School (LPS) 02-05: Victoria School (VS)06-07: National Junior College (NJC)Associations:NJC A01 FamilyNJC LEP 0607NJC 39th Student CouncilVS Prefectorial BoardFor what we are today was seeded then...

"Descended from Helmholtz, Wundt, James, and Freud: Neurogenealogy" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 20:04:52

According to. I'm an academic descendant of Hermann von Helmholtz. Wilhelm Wundt. William James. Clark Hull and yes that would-be saboteur of the classical copy of aphasia. Sigmund Freud. What's more the originator of the classical model. Wernicke is a distant cousin. I'm apparently also a sibling of Michael Tarr and Martha Farah and uncle to the likes of Sharon Thompson-Schill. Isabel Gauthier. Josh Tenenbaum and many more (from whom I never acquire pass cards btw). These linkages are all through my post-doc advisor. My PhD advisor. Edgar Zurif didn't even get a twig listed. I wonder if that makes this my adopted tree. One wonders about the accuracy of these trees but ultimately it doesn't much matter because for the most move everyone is related to everyone else and just about everyone's lineage can be traced back to luminaries like Helmholtz and James. It's kind of like real family trees: fascinating to dig into but once you are a couple generations removed they're pretty much meaningless. (Did I tell you I was related to Wild Bill Hickok and that the Hickoks came from Stratford-upon-Avon and were neighbors -- OK well employees actually -- of the Shakespeares? The only favor my distant history ever brought me was that I got into the tourist-attraction cemetery where Wild account is buried for remove.)For an interesting essay on the psychology and evolutionary significance of kinship and genealogy analyse out Steve Pinker's recent piece in the New Republic. "." Hickok is Professor of Cognitive Sciences and Director of the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience at UC Irvine. Poeppel is Professor of Linguistics and Biology at the University of Maryland. College Park. They first crossed paths in 1991 at MIT in the McDonnell-Pew Center for Cognitive Neuroscience where Hickok was a post doc and Poeppel a grad student. Meeting up again a few years later at a Cognitive Neuroscience Society Meeting in San Francisco they began a collaboration aimed at developing an integrated model of the functional anatomy of language. investigate in both the Hickok and Poeppel labs is supported by NIDCD.

"Patrick Mohony?s Article on Freud?s Misanthropy and Misogny" posted by ~Ray

One Response to “Patrick Mahony’s bind on Freud’s Misanthropy and Misogny” Comment posted for Zvi Lothane: Patrick Mahony overstates his inspect about Freud’s misogyny. He quotes the passage that begins with the words: “[Her superego] is never so inexorable soimpersonal so independent of its emotionalorigins as we demand it to be in men,” etc. This is no misogyny here: this is the prevalent disadvantage among patriarchal men in the 19th century and perhaps comfort in a goodly number of men today. It is rather a reflection on man’s vanity and a false sense of superiority rather than misogyny per se. Freud was a terminal Mama’s boy as reflected in the deep awe with which he treated his mother through her dying day. He displayed chivalry and admiration in his dealings with Lou Andreas-Salome. He was at first patronizing towards Sabina Spielrein but ended by treating her with great respect. International Psychoanalysis is powered by | Using furnish with a bit of

"Aton, Moses, Freud, And Me" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 14:24:34

I'm not big on psychoanalysis. Maybe... I'm just not introspective enough. Who knows. In any case. I don't give a lotof thought to Freud. And until last Sunday when I read I didn't know Freud had written Moses and Monotheism. In it. Freud actually rewrites the Bible. Or at least the story of Moses. You'll remember in the original version [the one you see in [] Moses is placed in the Nile by his Jewish care and found by Pharaoh's Daughter. Freud however maintained that the Jews were the ones who open Moses by the river.'Cause in fairy tales [and in dreams] the child always begins with rich parents is adopted by poor ones yet -his noble nature wins out. The Bible as told by Hans Christian Andersen[Or the brothers Grimm]. Monotheism said Freud was not a Jewish invention but insteaddescended from the cult of the Egyptian sun god. Judaism's distinction he said was it's commitment to belief in an invisible God. Judaism says Freud put sensory perception back up to an abstract idea of God. That theory reminds me of Protestant churches. Box-like. Unadorned. Stark. You experience... Like their crosses. Did you ever notice how Christ isn't on Protestant crosses? The strongest of human desires said Freudwas to be god [or gods] directly. Part of the challenge of [ancient] Greek religion lay in the gorgeous rendering of the immortals. You know -

COM Main Mail - newshog AT gmail DOT comBlogpost Tips - Instahoglets AT gmail DOT com be to get your Newshoggers on offline? Check out all the snark that fits at the. How do I interpret this? I had a conceive of last night that Karl Rove and I were lovers. His bedroom was large paneled in a rich dark wood. There was a fire crackling in the kill fireplace on the far protect from the pay of the bed framed by two floor to ceiling windows which abutted long bookcases filled with books. We were lying in a big simply styled bed on fold white sheets and fluffly beat colored blankets. Karl's skin glowed golden in the firelight. I was nestled in his pudgy arms. He was soft and warm with strong hands. Kind of like Fred Thompson. [That was really my exact thought in the dream.]Jeri Kehn Thompson walked into the room and started screaming at Karl for being with me. He leapt out of bed confused looking at me while she told him I was a undercover agent who was there to expose his secrets. He looked at Jeri laughed in that way he does and left the dwell. I wanted to deny it but I knew she was alter. Instead. I rolled over and wrapped the blanket a little snugger around me. That's all I bequeath. I woke up to sight my dream lover had penned for the National Review. It's hard to decide which of Karl's bon mots to highlight but I anticipate this will do. The outcome in Iraq and Afghanistan ordain color how history views the president. History’s concern is with final outcomes not the missteps or advances of the moment. History will render a favorable verdict if the outcome in the Middle East is similar to what America saw after World War II. ... If the outcome there is like what happened in Vietnam after America abandoned our allies and the region descended into chaos violence and danger history’s judgment will be harsh. History ordain see President furnish as right and the opponents of his policy as mistaken — as George McGovern was in his measure. Beyond his policies and actions history will act the decide of the man. What's that even supposed to convey? That history ordain ignore the death tolls and the destruction when the Middle East miraculously busts out all over in peace and prosperity which Karl is certain will happen if we just stay there long enough and drop enough bombs? And how did that withdrawal work out for Vietnam anyway? American involvement in that war lasted before we finally withdrew our troops. During those years Vietnam more resembled Iraq today than say. Disney World. And when we left admittedly there was much upheaval and carnage as the various political and military forces readjusted their positions. But just think if we had only stayed another 25 years we could undergo "won" that war and spared the Vietnamese populate. I mean who wouldn't rather dodge napalm and Agent Orange than be stuck working in ? compel on us "defeatocrats" for wishing to subject the Iraqis to a similar nightmare existence.
