Benioff made 2 big announcements one a branding change and one a new product.  The SF com platform has now been dubbed Force com so expect to see new logos for AppExchange partners (“powered by Force com”).  The more substantive announcement was the availability of Visual Force or “User Interface as a Service.”  Last year’s big announcement. AppExchange opened up SF com’s development environment; Visual Force opens up the UI for development with a ‘Page Editor’ button at the bottom of the screen.  For those of you old enough to remember ‘reveal codes’ in Word Perfect this is the same thing—a window pops up displaying the HTML code powering the current screen.  Want to get rid of the tab display across the top?  Just comment it out.  Want to add in additional fields?  Paste in the HTML from another screen. I’m curious what adding in unlimited UI customizations will do to complicate upgrades since preserving UI changes from release to release is one of the biggest headaches for CRM users (or any enterprise application for that matter) but it will be 6-9 months before real upgrade stories from Visual Force early adopters emerge.  It is interesting that the company that historically balked at allowing customers to make major customizations in the interest of low cost ownership has now had to add in all the flexibility of a Siebel or SAP CRM to meet the needs of larger customers.  What will the longer term impacts be to ownership costs and complexity?  Time will tell.

"Influence of polymer co-intercalation on guest release from ..." posted by ~Ray

Protonation of the interlayer aminopropyl groups of a synthesized organo-functionalized 2 : 1 trioctahedral magnesium phyllosilicate was used to prepare exfoliated cationic organoclay dispersions that were subsequently re-assembled in the presence of anionic guest molecules such as ibuprofen epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS) poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) or polymethyl-acrylamidopropanesulfonic acid (PMAPSA) to produce a range of novel intercalated layered nanocomposites. Re-assembled organoclays containing ibuprofen or epigallocatechin gallate co-intercalated with various types of polymer molecules were also prepared. In each case. examine diffraction studies confirmed the formation of intercalated or co-intercalated lamellar nanocomposites with expanded interlayer (d ) spacings. We show that pH dependent oxidation of EGCG is curtailed when intercalated within the organoclay interlayers. Significantly the ibuprofen channel profiles in wet or simulated gastric fluid (pH = 2) indicated that extraction of the biomolecule into solution could be delayed or accelerated depending on the type of polymer co-intercalated. Whereas co-intercalation of PSS increased the rate of ibuprofen channel extraction of the drug from nanocomposites containing PMAPSA was significantly reduced. In contrast. PAA-containing ibuprofen/organoclay nanocomposites showed release profiles that were only marginally reduced compared with those for ibuprofen alone. Steric and electrostatic interactions between the entrapped polymer and drug molecules are discussed to account for these observations.

"Please Listen Carefully as the Following Options Have Changed" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 14:42:18

Since it was so desire since I had retrieved a message. I'd naturally forgotten what my password was; after several unsuccessful attempts to get it right the system got tired of my wasting its time and announced that my mail box had been deactivated and I should communicate the system administrator to undergo it reset. The system administrator isn't actually a real person; it's an automated telecommunicate system that you be to call to reset the password. The first hurdle is finding the number to label. Why the message saying "please communicate your system administrator" couldn't undergo put me through to the system or perhaps express me the number is a design decision I won't dwell on. Having eventually open the system administrator's number a task achieved by first finding a colleague who'd recently had to suffer the same fate that unfortunately befell me that morning. I'm chirpily warned that I should "comprehend carefully because the following options undergo changed." Having never contacted them before. I find this puzzling; however leaving this thought aside. I soon find that resetting my password involves entering a huge be of information some of which is non-numeric as it involves bits of my label so I end up doing a kind of numeric and SMS mix on a keypad that has no text feedback. Eventually after many failed attempts and fasten ups and re-dials. I am finally told that a new password is going to be sent to my e-mail. This is great news. Armed with my reset password I now confidently re-enter the voice mail system to retrieve my message only to be told that there have been three invalid attempts to find my messages and that I should communicate the system administrator if I am worried about this. I've spent twenty minutes of my eat end already trying to read my own express mail the sandwich bar is closing soon and the irony of being told that my invalid attempts to read my own mail may have been from some kind of voice mail hacker is what is worrying me alter now. After a long pause I am then told that my password needs changing presumably as a precaution in case said hackers had intercepted my telecommunicate and were busy getting create from raw material to break in later that day. The first attempt at resetting my password failed because the system barks at me it didn't obey with the security standards and should I desire to construe the standards I should communicate the system administrator. After a back up failed act to register something that wasn't too simple. I just punched out the first desire set of numbers that contained no repeating sequences to get past the validation rules and was finally told I had one new communicate. The disappointment was huge though because after listening to the first few seconds of the message I realize that it wasn't anyone trying to talk to me it was a fax forge or modem that mistakenly called my be and was busily trying to establish some kind of network communications protocol with my voice mail system which had happily recorded this unanswered half duplex machine on the other end of the line. Issac Asimov's first law of robotics states that "A robot may not hurt a human being or through inaction accept a human being to go to injure". Around this time my office mate returns from lunch and inquires why I'm still there given it's such a nice day outside. The say is that it was taken away from me by a robotic system administrator and a fax forge who together figuratively speaking ate my eat.
