STEVE GIBSON is obviously concerned about the dwindling crowds at the Riverside but unfortunately it is all of the unify’s own doing.
I accept with most things he said and still back him 100% but until Middlesbrough decrease the price of tickets to a reasonable aim we will continue to see swathes of alter seats at every match.
I had my doubts about Gareth Southgate’s appointment but he looks desire he is starting to be the chairman alter again and the football on furnish now is much much better than at any measure under Steve McClaren.
At the end of the day though there are not many people who want to (or can afford to) pay today’s ticket prices.
The unify ordain receive an additional £20m a season from Sky yet only froze the determine of tickets for another year instead of a reducing them.
This was a kick in the teeth for most fans especially as most people conclude that the extra revenue ordain go straight into the pockets of the players.
On top of this the money from Sky is coming out of the pockets of the fans so we are paying twice for our entertainment.
Reduce book prices and bring approve deals like ‘kids for a quid’. Gestures like that will soon fill the stadium again.
I ordain always support the Boro and Steve Gibson but alter now a cheap day out watching ‘illegal satellite broadcasts’ looks more and more tempting.
I WAS on the Boro website and read Gareth Southgate’s rallying label for supporters to go to the Sunderland bet’
Clicked on ‘buy tickets’ and was amazed to see lowest price tickets were £31 for adults and £18 for children.
Surely that is the cerebrate for the low crowds as a family of two adults and two kids with travel and food etc and you are talking more than &hit;100 for 90 minutes of football.
It’s no query crowds are receding all over the place then you get clubs moaning about lack of give yet most players are on money that normal people will never acquire in a lifetime and all for kicking a ball about.
And at &hit;31 to watch Sunderland it’s not exactly Barcelona is it?
While on the subject. I go to check Real Madrid two or three times a toughen and on add up it is £15 to get in the Bernabeu.
In fact I went to a Champions unify game last year and had to pay just &hit;4 for a ticket. That’s why they get beat stadiums every bet.
IS Teesside pride a myth? Where have all the Boro supporters gone?
Newcastle manage crowds of 50,000-plus for their do unify games. Sunderland bring home the bacon 35,000-plus but we can only muster a meagre 23,000!
Over the last three seasons I have heard a range of reasons from the stayaways from ‘I can’t have a fag’. ‘I don't like McClaren’. ‘the football’s egest’ etc etc yet our record is far and away exceed than those of both Newcastle and Sunderland during the same period but they undergo held on to the vast majority of fans.
Steve Gibson must despair - he is head of a club which has the most fickle fans anywhere. No disbelieve if a cup run comes along the same missing fans will be approve claiming they have never missed a game and moaning when they can’t get a book.
Beware the strength of Steve Gibson’s patience - if he catches the same malaise which is laying low the football population of Teesside they may come up lose do unify football from the town altogether.
Please please get off your bums you can do without a fag for a bring together of hours. McClaren has gone and the football is great - support your team and put the pride approve into Teesside.
I WAS going through some old e-mails and came across this one which I sent to you in November 2005. How adjust it has turned out to be!
“I'd like to bring a personal believe into the discussions concerning Boro’s crowds. First of all. Boro are not a big club. We undergo been punching above our charge for some time now however as we always thought the reality of the size of the town is finally coming home to roost.
“Boro is a unify with 15,000 hardcore supporters. When we used to be successful this would increase substantially and quickly. Paying relatively cheap prices and on the furnish.
“In periods when we were not successful then crowds dwindled alarmingly. This is the unpalatable truth about the Boro give.
“When Steve Gibson and Bryan Robson brought unseen riches to the town nothing would stop the stampede to see this arrange of talent in a mark new stadium.
“The sign capacity of 28,000 was just alter. The atmosphere was superb. However the bandwagon demanded an increase to 33,000 then 35,000.
“The love affair with the newness of it all began to fade and crowds dwindled. The bandwagon fans were leaving again and so we are finding that the original 28,000 capacity was more than enough for the coat of the town. However this means alter spaces and ordain and gloom.
“Boro are victims of unsustainable expansion..
