I actually got lucky enough to field the complaint call from the salesman who sold this woman her Lexus. Caveat Emptor (sp?) Still makes me laugh. Anyway. What i mean to say is GM could (and should) bring the Opel label directly to America. As long as they are not model overlaps they would sell. The sheep would never know. The Terrain looks a little Audi/VW but that's a good thing. Especially at a GM price. So why DO we badge so much? It's prominent in some other countries but not all... Japan's Nissan division for instance has the same cars that we call Infiniti.. same for Toyota. Yet people in the US have no idea. It's hard to get people to understand that GM puts the same car out with 3-4 different badges all with identical features save body style and color. What's the point? Or more like they they HAVE TO look elsewhere for designs because they can't design stuff themselves.. As far as Americans unable to design a car you guys are just plain silly must hate the USA and ignore the fact that many great cars are still designed engineered and built here. This is off-topic but to asdf the Americans did not invent the automobile. While Olds introduced automobiles to the masses the first commercial success of the auto is credited to Benz and technically a Frenchman. Cugnot invented the first automobile. Try doing some reaseahc. They are south Korean. Here in Australia they sell them as a Holden Captiva. Oh and to us they are shit there are heaps better cars for the money availabe here. @Luke: everyone here has already come to the realization that this was designed in S. Korea you do not have to be an asshole. Next just because a company sells a car under different nameplates elsewhere does not mean it should sell that car under 5 name plates in the same place. In Australia they have the Captiva but not 5 different versions of the Captiva. Mark is absolutely right about engineering design and development occuring in the US. I'm not sure how many in this forum actually work or have ties to the auto industry but there's still a lot of design and engineering done in North America. Contrary to what the UAW will have you believe more and more companies (imports) are developing cars in North America; not just building cars but designing them as well. Its just now a lot of these jobs aren't under the control of the UAW. Also development of vehicles is being shared globally. Powertrains may be designed in Japan but the frame will be designed state-side. Tooling dies and moulds will be designed in Detroit but then run in Mexico. its a very global industry.

I would change surface go so far to say that all of the command's commercial trucks should be sold as GMCs and no Chevrolets just to handle up that Professional/Industrial image that much more.. of course I cognise that the dealership networks and whatnot lead that annoy change commercial trucks too. The water handle on my '01 GMC truck's 4.8 is leaking. Not sure if it's a gasket or the pump going bad. It's been leaking for some measure but I wasn't able to find a break until recently becaue it hasn't been leaking much. It leaks down the lie of the motor and I can't see exactly were it's coming from. Now it is starting to leak more and I need to be into it. I'm not experienced with the water pumps on these motors or how difficult they are to regenerate. The little info I've found on it seems to direct you to a qualified tech. I'm not a cozen when it comes to wrenching but I haven't done much bring home the bacon on the 4.8. 5.3. 6.0 engines. I do know that the handle is driven of the camshaft. Any ideas or advice before I take it apart and get in trouble. I undergo no information but would be interested too. My Step-Dad's '01 annoy 1500 with the 4.8L has been slowly leaking coolant from what I can only anticipate to be the wet handle gasket for about the last three years. They don't control the truck but a few thousand miles a year but it pretty much needs coolant every other time or so they use it. Rarely see the coolant leaking but can smell it often under the cover. 1977 Skylark w/455. 1972 Centurion w/455. 1967 Thunderbird w/428 and I be to replace one 1969 Firebird 400 http://www members aol com/thesilverbuick/Pictures/ The 4.8 water pump is not driven by the camshaft. It is belt driven. The hardest move is taking the fan clutch off of the water handle. You need pliers to compress the hose clamps a 15mm to take off the three bolts for the sing tensioner and a 10mm to take the 6 wet handle bolts loose. The easiest way to replace the handle is this way. 1. Remove the upper fan shroud. 2. Remove the fan and fan get hold of. 3. shift the serpentine belt. 4. Remove the upper displace and heater hoses from the water pump. 5. Remove the 6 10mm bolts from the wet pump. 6. Transfer the sing tensioner to the new pump. 7. Install the new water pump in the reverse order.8. fill the coling system. It is very easy to do this job. The hardest move is the fan get hold of. The whole job takes most mechanics less than 15 minutes with air tools. Yes the 4.8L water pump is bad about the gaskets leaking. Most of the older ones are about 75-80% gasket problems versus actual leaking wet pumps. Considering that the 5.3 does just fine in the much larger Sierra it ought to be a emit in the Canyon.
