"Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in My Life" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-08 02:04:01

which is the name of the Russian TV series written and directed by after the stories by Arthur Conan Doyle were to compete an important role in my life. By 1988/9 when I first watched it I have already been taking to writing short stories and poems. The first film I've seen. The Speckled Band was vivid enough to scare the hell out of me: for a few nights afterwards I was afraid to go to the kitchen through the dark corridor and I thought I could hear noises. I didn't be for serpents under my bed no but I speculate I wouldn't be writing this blog had I found any. The final outcome however was perhaps the most unexpected as the fear gradually gave way to a loving obsession with the adventures and unbeatable charisma of both sleuth and his friend. And it was this obsession that made me take an exercise-book (not a notebook yet) and start writing the new chapter in the long chain of Holmes's meanderings along London's criminal web. It was in 1989. I passionately filled about half of the exercise-book when it downed on me that there was something wrong about the whole thing. You see the cover bore a proudly written inscription "Arthur Conan Doyle. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson" and I suddenly realised that it was me not Conan Doyle who was writing the story. I could very come up change the name of the author but change surface though I probably didn't know the word "plagiarism" approve then. I knew nonetheless that those two amazing characters had already been created and the idea of continuing their story lost its charm instantly. This is how I learnt that I wanted to be original and to put my own name to the things I write. But the film not only remained in my life it became one of those films that I can check again and again and again. In fairness this is exactly what I've been doing while in Russia. I probably haven't missed any single time the series was screened on the Russian TV and bearing in mind that this is quite a popular film I must have seen each of the episodes more than twenty times. As time went by. I stopped being afraid and I began to pay attention to acting. And this was when I fell in love with this film once again this measure forever. Almost the entire cast were well-known stage actors and although the names of the majority of them might not express you anything the series can be called star-studded. In the final episode. "The Beginning of the Twentieth Century" you could see one of the universally acclaimed Russian actors in a cameo appearance..

"The Brave One tracking $15 million opening" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 18:25:24

which to me just looked like a slightly exceed acted female version of has opened to a $5 million taking on Friday which should compete to $15 million by the weekend’s end. This is the lowest opening for a Jodie Foster led big budget movie since in 1999. Superb word of mouth is keep chugging along with a very decent $2.7 million taking on Friday which should prove in another $9 million to it’s total by Monday. looks to be third for the pass. The // low-brow comedy opened to $2.6 million which should see it go just behind Yuma by Monday. A very poor opening but one that seems just from it’s bad trailer. thriller opened at only 15 locations but made an impressive $165,000 which should win out the PTA limited releases with a $10,971 average so far which I really can’t act to see is just behind it with a $9,114 average. The other Oscar hopeful and bequeath first movie since the Academy Award winning opened to less than a $5,000 add up in comparison. "30 Days of NYMF: Sherlock Holmes (The Early Years)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 14:25:54

SHERLOCK HOLMES (THEEARLY YEARS)by Kate Ferguson (bookwriter) When you comprehend the name "Sherlock Holmes" what do you think? For me it always used to be simple: deerstalker hat; pipe; classic Britishtelevision programs; and "Elementary my dear Watson!" Two years into theprocess of developing this show however and I now evaluate: this song about thefoggy streets of Londonis great but can we get another policemen kick-line into the dance routine? Sherlock Holmes (TheEarly Years) originated back in 2005 with a London-based theatre companyand writers and consequently a very British sensibility. Our lyricist, however had been at NYU and made the inspired suggestion of bringing on boarda composer she met there. Suddenly a British-American collaboration was born(ah the Special Relationship) which we're delighted to be continuing bybringing the show to NYMF. I am about to impel a lade of compliments in the directionof both cast and crew but I promise you. I am very trustworthy (come and sayhello to me at the show and you ordain see that this is adjust – I positively oozerespectability) and this is all completely objective. The entire aggroup isbringing a quite dazzling level of commitment and enthusiasm to the show, throwing themselves into the songs the script and the British accent withoutfear or reserve. In addition to the wonderful singing voices and acting skills, this cast has as book a comprehend of comedy as I have ever seen – they laugh atliterally all my jokes. The director assures me this is because they actuallyfind them funny and is not just out of a sense of duty.  Meanwhile all I have seen of New York is my sublet and the rehearsalstudio. I hear you have some excellent other places to visit (museums big tallbuildings a nice lay that sort of thing). Maybe one day I shall have thechance to see some of these. In the meantime while I look out of the window atthe streets of New York. I continue torehearse a musical based on the foggy foggy streets of London. It's almost as though I never lefthome… . "Interview: Band Of The Week - Backyard Tire Fire" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 19:46:56

In a just world. Backyard degenerate Fire (BTF) would receive the copious press coverage reserved for commercially successful but artistically impoverish acts such as.. well you can probably think of at least a few. But while you probably won't see the group on the cover of Rolling Stone in the come future at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. What matters is good music and on that point Backyard degenerate blast delivers big measure. What they also mouth is a sound that is firmly rooted in the rich history of American music - move back and forth 'n' roll. R&B country and folk to label but a few - while comfort being fresh and original. The trio of Ed Anderson (lead vocals & guitars) brother Matt Anderson (bass & vocals) and Tim Kramp (drums & vocals) undergo released five albums so far the most recent being February 2007's Vagabonds and Hooligans which has received widespread applaud from critics and no doubt won them many fans myself included. The bind has also staked their territory as an energetic and passionate be act. BTF's Ed Anderson recently took the measure to respond to some questions about the bind starting with that very unique label. Not really. Just a redneck nod to the Springfield Tire Fire on The Simpsons. Choosing a live album (2002's be at the Georgia Theatre) as your first release was rather unorthodox - how did that go about? We were broke and living in Athens. Georgia. A friend multi-track recorded us be at a gig and it seemed like the cheapest way to put out a preserve. So I guess it was kind of out of necessity. I was living in North Carolina and doing solo gigs and missed playing that move back and forth and turn music. So I invited Tim Kramp to move drink and live in my basement to play drums and drink Budweiser. We were broke and living in Athens. Georgia (act. I guess I already said that) and decided the best thing for the bind was to move to the Midwest where we had friends and family and folks that wanted to help us take this thing to the next level. Within a bring together of weeks we were gigging with my brother on bass within a year we had management and a label and then the agent followed. So I would say we made the right decision! Not to have in mind we got a great bass player out of the deal. I went to have school here. Tim is from here it's cheap to live here we desire it here (although it seems we're rarely here). How would you exposit your sound and style to someone unfamiliar with your music? We're a rock and turn band. We play honest original songs. I've heard alt country indie folk blues etc. How important was using analog technology to you for the recording of Vagabonds and Hooligans? Extremely. Our records wouldn't sound the way they do if we used digital technology. Our records sound warm and real. "Get Wise" is the most lyrically pointed song on the album. Were the lyrics inspired at all by current events? Certainly. I think a lot of folks undergo that same feeling that things aren't alter. Religion and politics are two very powerful scary things. gets a shout-out on the title track of Vagabonds and Hooligans. How much of an affect was he and ? I've only been into the Lips for a few years but love what they do. Wayne is a fearless freak and an inspiration to artistic musicians. They alter interesting thought-provoking music. You recently completed a tour with get hold of. How was that experience? Great. Real good bunch of people and loyal fans. Couldn't undergo toured with a nicer group of folks. And they bring the pure rock fury every night. Good tunes with hooks. Lots of weird tones and old amps and guitars. I've written a significant amount of the tunes on piano; so this record will be more keys-driven than the previous ones. I'm hoping it's cohesive and to the point and different from anything we've done before. What's been the highlight of the Backyard Tire Fire experience so far? I'm just happy to be making music and that folks want to come hear us and listen to our records. Had a great measure up in Canada with get hold of on this last tour. Really nice to kick that much ass in a different country. Can't act to get over to Europe! To learn more about Backyard degenerate Fire visit their and their page. Their last two albums (Bar dwell Semantics and Vagabonds and Hooligans) can be purchased by following the links to Amazon com in this bind. You can purchase other BTF music from the or iTunes. Backyard Tire Fire are heading into the studio soon to begin recording the followup to Vagabonds and Hooligans but ordain ordain play some dates in Illinois in October in between recording sessions then head out for a quick tour in November. Their go tour schedule is as follows: October 5 - University of Illinois. Urbana. ILOctober 18 - Hangar 9. Carbondale. ILOctober 19 - Friends & Co.. Charleston. ILOctober 20 - Paulies. Bloomington. ILOctober 31 - Mojo’s. Columbia. MONovember 1 - Larimer Lounge..
