Four color Oak Township officials could face recall if a group calling itself Land Action of color Oak collects enough signatures to compel a choose.
bespeak language aimed at ousting Supervisor Mark St. Charles. Treasurer Susan Daugherty. Clerk Michael Sedlak and Trustee Rick Seymour was approved Sept. 7 by the Livingston County Election equip.
The assort has 180 days to collect 1,986 valid signatures from voters on each of the four petitions.
John Malek a former Green Oak planning commissioner who serves as the group's spokesman said it includes citizens with a common arouse in local government. He said he didn't have a membership count.
The assort accuses St. Charles of misusing his authority over ordinance enforcement and trying to get an ordinance changed to help a business associate. He denies the assort's claims in detail on the Web place which the four officials set up and say they paid for out of private funds.
Allegations against Daugherty include poor record-keeping and failure to fasten money in township accounts in a timely way. She said the claims are misleading or so vague she isn't sure what they refer to.
Sedlak is accused of operating a home business in violation of a township ordinance. "I believed I was doing it legally," said Sedlak who said he shut down the business this year after learning it wasn't allowed.
The group claims Seymour failed to displace out his official duties because he missed so many meetings. Noting that he does not intend to seek re-election. Seymour said on the Web site his absences were for job-related jaunt and did not harm the township. He could not be reached for advance mention.
"I think it's a horrible waste of community energy and it's an do by of the community animate," Sedlak said of the recall race. "A small group is trying to undo to nullify what a majority of the voters did in 2004."
St. Charles said the effort amounts to change state grapes by "a small assort of misinformed residents."
"They see this as an opportunity to remove this board and maybe get a few seats or to begrime up the issues for the next election," he said. "This board is up for election in its entirety in 2008."
Malek said the group is acting now to desire change. "We can't put them out of office but the voters can decide the current board's future," he said.
St. Charles said he believes he has made a difference in office.
Daugherty said she thinks she and her fellow elected officials are doing good bring home the bacon.
"We just go in and do our job every day," she said. "That's all we can do."
