"Social news. Are you submitted? 8 sites to broaden your traffic." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:21:47

Like I mentioned at the beginning of the week this week is all about social media and utilizing it to get your blog more traffic and readers. Starting off with. This is to be considered the mack daddy of Social Media Sites. I’m sure someone is going to disagree so let me clear this up. It is said that if your story makes it to the front page of digg you can expect 30,000 uniques. I just saw a post go to the front page a couple weeks ago and the number was closer to 60,000. However it sometimes takes an act from a higher power to get to the front page so that is why you must keep reading this post to discover other places to submit to. is another super power but doesn’t get nearly the traffic that digg gets. Although according to it is still in the top 1000 sites. The strange thing about Reddit is this is exactly what digg looked like about three years ago. Very basic but had all the right features. Now we’re starting to get into the more specialized social news sites was started by. Basically Sphinn is a social site for search and interactive marketers. So if your blog has content related to these things feel free to submit. which used to be Netscape (not to be confused with the web browser) is a social news site that was supposedly the digg killer. The difference is that once stories are submitted there is an editor that reviews the story and writes a little more about it. I figure the reason they caught som much bad pres is because they had the potential to steal some digg user base with the star power they had behind the project. Now that it doesn’t occupy the netscape com namespace I guess its just a side project for someone at AOL. is a socially driven Internet Marketing community. So the IM stands for Internet Marketing. And the Plug part stands for. Oh you get the idea. Same voting method as the rest applies ou either like it or you don’t. is a site that you can mixx the stuff that you like and have it delivered to you when you log in. The good thing for bloggers is that the categories cover pretty much everything. I wanted to make sure I included in this list to show you how specialized social news sites can get. Hugg was started by and is for Blogs and articles devoted to green. is the real digg killer! Ok maybe I just said that because Newsdoggy is a sister site of. This is one of my pet projects that I just started and hope everyone takes the opportunity to become an earlier adopter. I have many ideas for NewsDoggy but those ideas will only come to life with blogger participation. So jump in and get your free account. For now its another great way to promote your posts. [...] Jason I recently subscribed to his blog rss feed. It offers lots of good resource articles. That’s how you can increase your web traffic using social media sites. [...] [...] for your blog wrote an article on 8 social sites that will get you traffic theres some big ones in there and some smaller ones. I don’t see stumbleupon or bloggingzoom [...] XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <code> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q cite=""> <strike> <strong>

"News sites want more control over search engine" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-07 23:34:24

It’s now evident online news publishers are not quite pleased with the way search engines index their sites. Today these publishers ordain expose their new proposals at the Associated Press headquarters to prevent any disagreements with leading search engines like explore and Yahoo! Currently crawlers of different examine engines follow the rules of news sites as stated in their text file named as “robots txt”. "Briefs: Yahoo Tries To Catch Widget Wave; News Sites Unveil System ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 15:08:47

+ As the article points out. Yahoo has been trying to “surprise the widget wave” since acquiring nearly 2.5 years ago. Today the company is announcing that it’s going to alter it easier for developers to create widgets. Stay tuned. It’s one thing to build and it’s something else for people to transfer and something else again for populate to alter use of regularly once downloaded. To put it in the language of the film. “handle of Dreams,” building it does NOT MEAN populate ordain go and use it. tour the. See Also: See Also: See Also: See Also: See Also: Two issues here.1) News organizations undergo always had the ability to use Robots txt and other tools to not accept crawlers to crawl and/or cache their content. We’ve always wondered why more didn’t use their content management systems to set content to discontinue on a specific go out. Eventually the circumscribe would disappear (assuming the engine respected robots txt) would cease. come up after reading this entire article either the tech (Automated circumscribe Access Protocol) was not available or no one was really paying attention (aka caring). The new proposal to be unveiled Thursday by a consortium of publishers at the global headquarters of The Associated touch seeks to undergo those extra commands - and more - apply across the board. Sites for instance could try to limit how long examine engines may retain copies in their indexes or tell the crawler not to follow any of the links that be within a Web page. The current system doesn’t furnish sites “enough flexibility to express our terms and conditions on access and use of circumscribe,” said Angela Mills walk executive director of the European Publishers Council one of the organizations behind the proposal. “That is not surprising. It was invented in the 1990s and things act on.” 2) Another issue populate or bots simply copying and pasting the news circumscribe from a news obtain and making it their own. This issue is not addressed by this new proposal but it’s another way the circumscribe can be “on the web.” What are publishers doing about these issues? See:+ +

"Need quick advice regarding E-commerce hosting sites" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 19:25:30

I'm new to the forum but hope you can help me narrow down some difficult choices. My preserve and I are currently providing content on a website promoting our business but the website is controlled by someone else. This is no longer a workable situation and we need to move everything to a new site quickly (which is no problem.. we undergo all the content). My question is we be a site that supports E-commerce (we currently change one product but anticipate selling more in future; perhaps 20 items total) plus newsletter subscriptions and delivery (we currently use Zookoda but are not overly impressed). The newsletter delivery is currently a click-through link in an email with the newsletter in a protected area on our website. I have been researching sites for 5 days now but having very little technical knowledge. I am completely overwhelmed and running out of time. Can anyone suggest 2 or 3 sites that support E-commerce are fairly easy to use (assume some knowledge but of the basic to discuss variety!) are as reliable as possible give technical give and allow for newsletter/subscriptions? It doesn't undergo to be remove.. we're happy to pay for a quality product. You my find it helpful to let populate know:1 what your calculate limitations are2 the type of hosting you are searching for Dedicated or Shared3 storage requirements4 bandwidth requirements5 the write of product and contentGood luck with your examine. Also don't forget to consider management - as it sounds like you need a fully-managed solution even if it is a discuss business place. Kind Regards, Whatever you do in the cover of your search be sure to be for a host that knows something about e-commerce. There is nothing worse than opening a book with tech give asking about an error on your shopping draw or asking how to do something with a script and having them say "we don't support scripts," or "I don't undergo any experience with running a newsletter." So send a sales email to all of your prospective hosts and ask them, Do you give any give for scripts for instance ordain you help me trouble-shoot my script if there is an error? (Be sure to include the label of your scripts) Do you recommend or have first-hand experience with any specific newsletter providers? Which do you declare and which do you warn against? Why? (If they are familiar with a company then they can back up you get set up if you need help) If you go with a cPanel entertain (cPanel is a control adorn that helps you bring home the bacon all the features & capabilities of your hosting be) who has Fantastico. Fantastico will be very helpful to you. Fantastico is a suite of quick-installers for over 40 different scripts including 3 shopping carts: OSCommerce. ZenCart and CubeCart. Also included with cPanel is Agora Cart. For more information on different carts. I recommend pouring a cup of coffee and browsing the E-Commerce Forum read threads from the measure few weeks you'll get feedback on the advantages & disadvantages of several popular shopping carts. It's far more than we can cover in just this thread. As far as a newsletter if you plan to send your own newsletters you'll need to lay a newsletter compose on your website. Be sure to ask your prospective host if they accept that and how many emails they accept per hour and per day. Many hosts limit the be of emails you can send per day to 1,000 and that's going to make it kind of difficult to grow your business. There are shared hosts however who will allow you to displace more than that from their servers.. and who will be happy to help get you set up. A couple of good scripts for running your own newsletter are and. Dada is free; 1-2-All is under $100. 1-2-All is by far the better of the two scripts; it is simply fantastic. Otherwise you will be to lease out your newsletter function to an off-server solution which it sounds is what you have been doing. I undergo never heard of Zookoda but that's not to say it isn't good however you should use the newsletter system that works best for your needs. If they aren't meeting your needs then it's time to act on. A bring together of newsletter providers which I've been impressed with as a subscriber (I am subscribed to lists on their systems) are and. Of the 2. I personally like Aweber's features exceed (they undergo more really useful tools for senders). Deliverability is really good for both of them -- better than what you are going to get on your own script hosted on your hosting be -- so if your newsletter is bringing in sales. I would strongly consider using an off-server solution. It's a lot of information to act in at once but yes it is absolutely possible to choose a good helpful host who has the features and flexibility to get you up & rolling quickly. Be sure to send some pre-sales questions to your prospects though -- that ordain separate the wheat from the chaff really quickly.
